Adverting to Treasury Letter of the 20th August

1910 (15126/10), I am directed by the Lords Commissioners of

His Majesty's Treasury to transmit herewith, for the informa-

tion of Mr. Secretary Harcourt, a copy of a letter which They

have received from the Chartered Bank of India, Australia and

China, relating to a proposed reallocation of the Bank's

authorised note issue between the several Branches in the

East. My Lords are disposed to agree to the first of the two alternative arrangements proposed; but before communicating with the Bank They would be glad to be informed whether Mr.

Secretary Harcourt sees any objection to this course of action.
